Out on the Ocean / Trip to Cheltenham

2 slow jigs; one of which is relevant to Melodeon.net’s theme of the month for April 2013, ‘Trip to…’ tunes! Out on the Ocean is a traditional Irish jig; Trip to Cheltenham was written by John Shepherd, who was then with the Albion Band (in about 1990 I think). Played on a Castagnari Mory in D/G with semi-unisonoric basses.

Dobbin’s Flowery Vale

A version of Altan’s Dobbin’s Flowery Vale, as found on their album Harvest Storm. Frankie Kennedy’s haunting flute is an inspiration there, and if you haven’t heard it, you really should. This version is played on a Hohner Preciosa 12 bass in Bb/Eb. in F Mixolydian and F minor for the 2 parts respectively (I think!). Played as part of Melodeon.net’s Theme of the Month for July 2011, Tunes from Ireland
