This piece is from Bear McCreary’s score for the 2004 TV version of Battlestar Galactica. It wasn’t written with the melodeon in mind, so I’ve had to work quite hard to make it fit. It’s a lovely piece that fits on the piano too.
Played on a Van der Aa melodeon in G/C for melodeon.net’s theme of the month for July 2020, TV music.
I heard this tune on Will Allen’s facebook feed, and it’s also on Dave Shepherd and Becky Price’s album Ashburnham. Trad English, with a very, very unfortunately topical name.
[[[ For those watching in the future, it’s currently June 2020, we’re in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Dominic Cummings has just blown up the whole strategy of lockdown to control it by deciding to take his family 250 miles due north in the middle of the lockdown, while ill, and then go on a 30 mile day trip to “check his eyesight” to Barnard Castle. Honestly, check the wiki page. It’s hysterical. ]]]
Part of melodeon.net’s theme of the month for June 2020, “The Great Outdoors”, and played on a Streb electronic melodeon. I think we’re in C melodic minor.
Another tune from our June 2020 lockdown music morning where we played a few tunes on Horsefair Green in Stony Stratford together. That won’t make a lot of sense if you’re watching this 10 years in the future, but right now, we are bang in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and are keeping 2 metres apart from each other, as is the rest of the country. Strange times. The tune is Vivre, written by Stephane Delicq.
I learned this tune a *long* time ago, and still enjoy playing it. I don’t normally play it “out” though. It’s a Jean Blanchard fast waltz, played in Em on a Castagnari Mory in D/G, and played for both the Vaults Bar virtual session and melodeon.net theme of the month “Minor Tunes”.
Another of a series of tune sets that I play in sessions that I’m recording every week or so for the Vaults Bar virtual session. I used to play these 2 with GIG CB, and indeed they’re on their first CD “Giant!” (recorded 20+ years ago!).
These are waltzes in Em (played on a D/G Castagnari Mory) written by Jon Swayne and Andy Cutting respectively. Flatworld is pretty much “traditional” now, of course.
Here’s a contribution for Melodeon.net’s theme of the month for May 2020, minor tunes. This is Mazurka Rigal, a lovely traditional centre-France mazurka, here played on the inner row of a C/F Hohner Club melodeon, and hence in Gm.
