Abbots Bromley Horn Dance / Kindling

An unusual pairing of tunes for Melodeon.net’s strange tune pairs theme of the month. The first is the tune known as Abbots Bromley Horn Dance tune, though it isn’t actually used as such by the Abbots Bromley Horn Dancers – they use any tune *but* that one! Other dance sides doing the horn dance use it a lot. The second comes from the English Acoustic Collective and their Morris Offspring collaboration; a tune played with John Dipper’s Dapple and Dobbin (recorded earlier on this channel!) – it’s by Robert Harbron, and called ‘Kindling’. Great tune Rob!

Played on a Castagnari Giasco I in D/G.

The Sussex Waltz

A mazurka’d implementation of this traditional English waltz, commonly played as a bourree in the style of Tim Van Eyken’s version. I think it makes a nicer mazurka 🙂

Played on a D/G Castagnari Giasco; Melodeon.net tune of the month for July 2014.

Black Nag / Nonesuch

2 tunes played as part of Melodeon.net’s theme of the month ‘Tunes collected by Cecil Sharp’. Not so much collected by Cecil Sharp these – they’re both well known Playford tunes – but part of his Country Dance volume, section 4, so fair game I think.

Played on a Hohner Preciosa in Bb/Eb (so these tunes are in C minor)
