Melodeon.net tune of the month for January 2020 is this french waltz written by Jean-Christophe Lequerre. Sits quite nicely on a 2 row 8 bass instrument – in this case a Hohner Liliput conversion in G/C.
Theme of the month at melodeon.net for January 2020 is mountains, hills, etc – this air came instantly to mind. It’s traditional, but discovered/played by English instrumental trio Leveret and found on their album ‘In the Round’. Cader Idris is of course a mountain in mid Wales.
Played on the Castagnari Mory in D/G.
Melodeon.net’s tune of the month for Dec 2019 is this classic 32 bar jig; always a favourite of mine. Here played in C on a G/C Hohner Liliput converted by Kay Albrecht.
A seasonal offering for Melodeon.net’s theme of the month for December 2019 – Christmas and Winter. This is an irish hornpipe found in O’Neill’s, but quite obscure. I learned it off a bluegrass christmas album. Played in D minor on a G/C Hohner Liliput.
Mark and I recorded this last night while having a run through of tunes; I’m on the Castagnari Mory in D/G, although I’m playing it in single voice (I usually use either both high reeds, or all 3 reeds).

A slightly different version of Frederic Paris’ schottische, which is tune of the month at melodeon.net this month (November 2019). Lovely tune, been playing it for *years* which makes it hard to find anything different to do with it!
Here played on a Hohner Preciosa 12 bass in Bb/Eb. (we’re on the inside row, so we’re playing in F minor).
If you want to hear how I’d play it normally, here I am playing it live in concert with my mate Mark Prescott a few years back.
A lovely hornpipe written by english melodeon guru John Kirkpatrick. Here played on a Kay Albrecht Lilliput in G/C. Part of melodeon.net’s theme of the month for November 2019, Hornpipes.
A lovely old English tune played on a Kay Albrecht Lilliput in G/C. Part of melodeon.net’s theme of the month for November 2019, Hornpipes.
A lovely traditional hornpipe played on a Kay Albrecht Lilliput in G/C. Part of melodeon.net’s theme of the month for November 2019, Hornpipes.
Here’s my take on Lars Karlsson’s tune Leyas Vaggvisa. I’ve reworked it into the style of a nordic bridal march, turning the time signature into 4/4 in the process. It works quite well (I think) but the sound quality isn’t what I’d hoped – I’m recording directly from the Streb’s line output using the internal midi synthesiser. I’m playing mostly on the inside row of a Bb/Eb melodeon setting.
Melodeon.net tune of the month for October 2019.
