St Anne’s Reel

A somewhat more laid back version of this tune than the video I learned it from! French canadian, put also popular in the bluegrass and canadian traditions.

Played on a Castagnari Giasco I D/G in D. tune of the month for March 2020.

Where Is Your Heart (Moulin Rouge)

Theme of the month at is music from the movies, so here’s the tune from the song from the 1952 film Moulin Rouge. A great waltz in its own right. Written by Georges Auric, and frequently sung with a variety of different lyrics depending on language.

Played on a Hohner Club 1 in C/F.

Farewell to Muirhead’s tune for February 2020 is this Robert Wallace’s bagpipe tune. I’m using the same settings/set up on the other video this month here: – so we’re on a Streb electronic melodeon as a midi wind controller, and playing some accompanying piano through the magic of multi-tracking.

Flatwater Fran

This is a gorgeous tune written by Phil Cunningham. This time the recording is entirely electronic/midi, using the Streb melodeon as a very capable wind controlled midi controller. It’s doing the main tune on an ocarina sample, and a couple of admittedly less convincing bandoneon samples doing the basses. I’m using the samples off the DAW software, Mixcraft, and to be honest the accordion sounds aren’t as good as the built in ones on the Streb itself. I’ve multi-tracked a simple piano backing track to fill it out a bit.’s theme of the month for February 2020.

La Mal-Aimable tune of the month for January 2020 is this french waltz written by Jean-Christophe Lequerre. Sits quite nicely on a 2 row 8 bass instrument – in this case a Hohner Liliput conversion in G/C.

The Height of Cader Idris

Theme of the month at for January 2020 is mountains, hills, etc – this air came instantly to mind. It’s traditional, but discovered/played by English instrumental trio Leveret and found on their album ‘In the Round’. Cader Idris is of course a mountain in mid Wales.

Played on the Castagnari Mory in D/G.

Hunt the Squirrel’s tune of the month for Dec 2019 is this classic 32 bar jig; always a favourite of mine. Here played in C on a G/C Hohner Liliput converted by Kay Albrecht.

Frost and Snow

A seasonal offering for’s theme of the month for December 2019 – Christmas and Winter. This is an irish hornpipe found in O’Neill’s, but quite obscure. I learned it off a bluegrass christmas album. Played in D minor on a G/C Hohner Liliput.

Hector the Hero played by Vivant (Mark Prescott and Clive Williams)

Mark and I recorded this last night while having a run through of tunes; I’m on the Castagnari Mory in D/G, although I’m playing it in single voice (I usually use either both high reeds, or all 3 reeds).

The photography is aerial shots taken of the area around Stony Stratford, taken from this blog:

Derriere les Carreaux

A slightly different version of Frederic Paris’ schottische, which is tune of the month at this month (November 2019). Lovely tune, been playing it for *years* which makes it hard to find anything different to do with it!

Here played on a Hohner Preciosa 12 bass in Bb/Eb. (we’re on the inside row, so we’re playing in F minor).

If you want to hear how I’d play it normally, here I am playing it live in concert with my mate Mark Prescott a few years back.
