From Night Til Morn

This tune is melodeon.net’s Tune of the Month for July 2020; a lovely trad English tune. I’ve been experimenting with video editing recently – so it’s a duet!

Played on a Hohner Pokerwork in D/G, and mixed with the Olive video editor.

Roslin and Adama

This piece is from Bear McCreary’s score for the 2004 TV version of Battlestar Galactica. It wasn’t written with the melodeon in mind, so I’ve had to work quite hard to make it fit. It’s a lovely piece that fits on the piano too.

Played on a Van der Aa melodeon in G/C for melodeon.net’s theme of the month for July 2020, TV music.

The Rose Tree / Duchess Dressed in Blue – Session Set

Another pair of tunes that I play fairly frequently in sessions recorded for the Vaults Bar virtual session. These have the distinct advantage of sitting perfectly on a standard 2 row D/G melodeon, but still have lots of musical possibilities. No extra basses, accidentals required.

Played on a Hohner D/G Pokerwork, during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020.

Si Bheag Si Mhor – Session Set

Although it’s just the one tune, I’d still class this as a session set – something I commonly play down the Vaults Bar and other sessions. It’s in D of course, and was recorded for the Vaults Bar virtual sessions during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Played on a Castagnari Mory in D/G.

Trip to Barnard

I heard this tune on Will Allen’s facebook feed, and it’s also on Dave Shepherd and Becky Price’s album Ashburnham. Trad English, with a very, very unfortunately topical name.

[[[ For those watching in the future, it’s currently June 2020, we’re in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Dominic Cummings has just blown up the whole strategy of lockdown to control it by deciding to take his family 250 miles due north in the middle of the lockdown, while ill, and then go on a 30 mile day trip to “check his eyesight” to Barnard Castle. Honestly, check the wiki page. It’s hysterical. ]]]

Part of melodeon.net’s theme of the month for June 2020, “The Great Outdoors”, and played on a Streb electronic melodeon. I think we’re in C melodic minor.

Orange in Bloom / Ville de Quebec – Session Set

Another in a short series of session tune sets being played as part of our local session at Stony Stratford’s Vaults Bar virtual group. Am recording (gradually) each of the tune sets I typically play at sessions – the repertoire is a little different to what i normally play on my channel, since being in a sensible key and good to join in with is important.

These 2 waltzes are Orange In Bloom (aka Sherbourne Waltz), and Chris Wood’s tune Ville de Quebec.

Played on a Hohner Pokerwork in D/G

The Guinness Waltz

Melodeon.net’s tune of the month for June 2020 is Tor Albrigtsen’s waltz; here played on a dry tuned 1920’s Hohner in G/C. It seems nicely suited to the tune I think
