2 fast-ish reels written by Dave Whetstone, and lifted from his CD ‘The Resolution’. Pretty great tunes IMHO. Played for the Vaults Bar Virtual Session on a Castagnari Mory in D/G.

Another tune written nearly 30 years ago by yours truly… that I can still remember. It’s probably got something about it then, because I’ve written plenty of others, including some recorded on this channel, that I can’t! I lived in Macclesfield at the time, and the mill referred to in the title is this one:

Comments closedGosh, we’re going back in time here. I’ve certainly played my entire ‘up to date’ repertoire on this channel by now, so we’re going back to stuff I used to play, or in this case, never really did play. I wrote this one, probably about 1992. I wouldn’t claim it’s a musical masterpiece; in fact, I barely ever play it. But for some odd reason, I can still remember it – I’ve written plenty more tunes since then, and completely forgotten them. This one stuck, and it fact refuses to be forgotten, nearly 30 years later – it’s an earworm, like it or not. So here it is, now preserved for posterity.

Comments closed2 ‘old school’ french 2-time bourrees from the playing of La Chavannee, and tunes I used to play in the 1990’s/2000’s down the George Inn and at London french dance club On Bouge. Here, resuscitated and recorded for the Vaults Bar virtual session. Cracking tunes, both of them. Like most of the La Chavannee repertoire, it may sound traditional but it was probably written by members of the band – Philippe Prieur and Fred Paris.

Comments closedA classic Scottish tune, typically played for a classic Scottish dance of the same name. Always known the tune but never played it before I had to learn it for the Pamplemousse ceilidh band I play in; we can do quite a number of Scottish dances in our set.
Played on a Hohner C/F melodeon (in C, so not a session friendly key, sorry) – part of the Melodeon.net theme of the month for May 2021.
Comments closedA playford tune, half of which I remember learning as a child! I’m playing this rather faster than you’d normally hear it (normally it would be march/procession speed, and quite merrily missing out that accidental in the first part) – I quite like it at this pace. Am playing on a C/F Hohner Club I, so we’re in D minor.
Melodeon.net tune of the month for May 2021.
Comments closedOops, played this for the online vaults bar session, without realising I’d already recorded it in 2013 (!). That was on a G/C, this time I’m playing on a Hohner C/F Club 1. If you listen back to the earlier version, you might see if I’m approaching it any different 8 years later in my playing. Probably not! 🙂
